Netball Coaches

The Castlemaine Football and Netball club have received a huge boost for the 2012 season with the signing of two new coaches to the club.

Former Victorian State Netball league player Kate Wastell will take on the role of Head coach across all four Magpie netball teams, with her sister Jodie Campbell acting as her assistant.

Kate retired last year as a State Championship player with the Yarra Valley Grammar Ariels but will take the court for Castlemaine in a playing role.

Kate's alignment with the Ariels will continue, with an opportunity for Castlemaine players to take the next step with their netball through a program, that will see talented Magpie players offered training scholarships to train at the State Netball Centre with the Ariels.

As a former South Bendigo and North Central region representative player Kate is committed to developing the players in this region to their full potential."I'm looking forward to coming back to the region where I started my netball and giving something back" Wastell said.

"I want to combine the more experience players with the young up and coming players and create opportunities for players, through Ariels, but at the same time develop the local netballers to be competitive and to enjoy their netball".

CFNC General Manager Stuart Dunn said the appointment was a huge coup for the club and a very exciting opportunity.

"Kate provides us with an elite player and coach but more importantly a link that will enable our netballers to access opportunities to further their career" Mr Dunn said.

"We have a great junior football pathway developing through our under 18 coach Harmit Singh and his links to Collingwood, so it is wonderful that we are now able to offer similar opportunities to our netballers".

"It has been a wonderful off-season in terms of the coaching staff we have been able to put in place, with people with strong connections to elite sport guiding our junior players. I doubt there is another regional club anywhere in Australia that could boast the sort of coaching team we are offering next season, which is a huge boost for the footballers and netballers of Castlemaine". Mr Dunn said.

Castlemaine will hold try-outs for the upcoming season on Thursday November the 24th, Sunday 4th of December and Thursday 8th of December and would like players to attend a minimum of two.

Players wanting to try out are requested to contact Kate Wastell at: wastell.kate.j@edumail.vic.gov.au or call 0428847153 by Monday the 21st of November
